Somali Forces, Local Militias Launch Fresh Offensive Against Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali government troops, backed by local militias known as Macawiisley, have launched coordinated attacks on Al-Shabaab strongholds in the Tardo area of Hiiraan region.

According to military officials, the operation is part of a wider campaign to reclaim territory from the militants and restore stability in central Somalia. The government forces advanced from multiple directions, targeting positions across several districts to disrupt the group’s operations.

Hiiraan regional officials said the offensive would continue until recently lost areas were recaptured.

The push reflects the government’s broader strategy to weaken Al-Shabaab’s grip on rural regions and secure key population centres.
