Somali Forces Plan Major Push to Dismantle Al-Shabaab Strongholds

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army (SNA) and allied local militias are in the planning stages of a large-scale offensive against Al-Shabaab (AS) in Galmudug State, aiming to dismantle militant bases and restore stability to the region.

Colonel Hassan Ciraaqi, Commander of the elite Gorgor unit’s 18th Battalion, confirmed that preparations are underway for coordinated military operations targeting key AS positions. Senior military officials and local leaders recently gathered in Wisil, a strategic town in southern Mudug, to fine-tune their battle plans and strengthen cooperation with the community.

“The fight against terrorism requires the full support of the military, political leaders, and the public,” Colonel Ciraaqi stated, urging residents to work alongside security forces in the mission to drive AS out of their areas.

Once launched, the offensive, backed by reinforcements including armored vehicles and heavy artillery, will aim to cut off AS’s supply routes and dismantle their strongholds. Military sources indicate that key reinforcements have already been positioned in strategic locations to maximize the impact of the operation.

Senior government officials have been visiting front-line positions, encouraging troops and directing commanders to finalize preparations.

Local leaders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a long-overdue move to bring lasting security to Galmudug. Many residents have pledged to assist security forces by providing intelligence on AS hideouts and movements.

The Somali government remains committed to eliminating extremism and securing its regions, framing this operation as a crucial step toward achieving long-term peace and development in the country.
