Somali Forces Retake Two Villages from Al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali government forces have recaptured two villages in the Middle Shabelle region from Al-Shabaab militants following a targeted military operation.
Military sources said the Somali National Army, led by units from the Gorgor Commando Brigade, carried out operations in the Xawaadley area, reclaiming the villages of Dharaawe and Galka Cumar after heavy fighting.
Lt. Col. Abuukar Hassan Ahmed, deputy commander of the 19th Battalion, said government troops inflicted significant losses on the militants and continue pursuing fighters who fled the area.
The Somali government regularly refers to Al-Shabaab as “Khawaarij,” a term used for extremist groups.
