Somali Forces Seize Strategic Areas in Lower Shabelle, Foil Al-Shabaab Plot

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali government forces, backed by local community fighters, have seized control of key areas in the Lower Shabelle region after launching a targeted operation to dismantle Al-Shabaab hideouts and prevent imminent attacks on civilians.

According to security officials, the joint operation, conducted in Ceel-Saliini and Buushka near the N50 corridor, was based on actionable intelligence that indicated Al-Shabaab militants had regrouped in the area and were planning coordinated terrorist attacks.

“Our forces acted swiftly and decisively to prevent harm to innocent civilians,” a military official involved in the operation said. “We are now conducting thorough clearance operations to stabilize the area.”

The Somali National Army (SNA) and local resistance groups engaged in a brief but intense firefight before gaining full control of the territory.

Authorities say the operation is part of a broader federal campaign to secure Lower Shabelle, a region long plagued by insurgent activity due to its strategic location and proximity to the capital.

The success in Ceel-Saliini and Buushka marks another step in the Somali government’s renewed offensive against Al-Shabaab, which has seen increased collaboration between federal forces and mobilized local communities.

Security officials say continued intelligence-led operations are key to dismantling remaining militant cells and ensuring sustainable peace in the region.
