Somali forces unearth weapons from Al-Shabaab bunker in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somali security forces have unearthed a cache of explosives in a bunker belonging to the militant group Al-Shabaab in a planned operation in Huriwaa district, north of Mogadishu.

The military wing of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, (NISA) dubbed Dufaan conducted the operation which led to the arrest of three Al-Shabaab operatives in the area.

The weapons include mortar shells and drums which Al-Shabaab commonly uses to make mortar bombs.

NISA officials said the operation was successful due to the cooperation extended by the community in flushing out the Al-Shabaab militants

“The NISA forces are always grateful to the Somali community for their continued cooperation with the National Intelligence Service,” said a statement from NISA.

Security forces have in the past unearthed Al-Shabaab bunkers in various parts of the city with recent incidents in Elasha Biya on the southerly outskirts of Mogadishu.
