Somali Future Council Outlines Agenda for Expected Meeting With President Mohamud
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Somali Future Council has issued a press statement detailing the key issues it plans to raise with the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, during an expected meeting in Mogadishu on February 1, 2026.
The Council said the planned engagement follows its conference held in Kismayo from December 18–20, 2025, where participants discussed the country’s overall situation and the current political direction.
According to the statement, the main issues the Council intends to discuss with the President include:
- Safeguarding the 2012 Provisional Constitution, with the Council expressing clear opposition to any actions or changes it says would contradict the constitution.
- National security, particularly the fight against the militant groups Al-Shabaab and ISIS (Daesh).
- Implementing a transparent electoral process grounded in law and Somalia’s constitutional institutions.
- National unity, social cohesion, and drought conditions, and the impact of these challenges on citizens’ lives.
The Somali Future Council also voiced concern over ongoing political disputes, disruptions to governance processes, and what it described as a growing threat to Somalia’s unity and national cohesion.
The statement concluded with a call for an inclusive national consultation, with the Council saying it is ready to play a constructive role in protecting state institutions and strengthening the country’s security and stability.
