Somali Government Offers $30,000 Reward for Information on Al-Shabaab Bomb Expert
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has announced a $30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a senior Al-Shabaab operative linked to the group’s bomb disposal unit.
In a statement released Sunday, the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) identified Yusuf Mohamed Hussein as a key figure in Al-Shabab’s operations in the Banadir region, responsible for bomb disposal, reconnaissance missions, and planning suicide attacks.
“NISA calls on Somali citizens to provide any information regarding this individual’s whereabouts. Those who assist will receive a $30,000 cash reward,” the statement read.
The spy agency added that Hussein is believed to have played a key role in several terror attacks in Mogadishu – including bombings at Villa Rosa, the Banadir regional headquarters, Pearl Beach, SYL Hotel, Beach View, and several prominent restaurants such as Sayidka, Jawi Coffee, Blue Sky, Top Coffee, and School Polizio.
NISA further stated that it has already apprehended several individuals linked to Hussein including some of his family members and confiscated vehicles used in the attacks.
The agency revealed that Hussein is believed to be currently hiding in the Mubarak area of the Lower Shabelle region.
