Somali government refutes EU allegations over civilian executions

The chief of Somalia’s military court Liban Ali Yarow has vehemently denied a report by EU that accuses the Govt of committing executions against innocent civilians.

Somalia’s Chief of the Supreme Military Court, Liban Ali Yarow has discarded reports saying Somali government ruled cases of innocent civilians military courts.
Speaking to BBC Somali service, Liibaan said that the sentences of executions are based on the country’s military rules and the executed criminals were only Al-Shabab members.
“The Somali military court sentenced Al shabab element to death. There were no basically any executions against civilians which ruled by military court. EU report is baseless and beyond the truth,” he said.
EU has said in its latest that Somali military court has carried out 29 executions against civilians who were shot dead by the army in Mogadishu over the past 12 months.
