GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The government has suspended, with immediate effect, the recruitment and export of Somali workers after it emerged that the trade was not properly regularized. In a press statement released Thursday, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs said it had gone a step further and revoked all the permits and licenses previously issued by recruitment agencies, as most of them did not follow due procedures in the recruitment of the workers.
The ministry also noted with concern that many of the workers complained of varying degrees of abuse, necessitating an overhaul of the whole process to address some of the concerns raised by the distressed Somalis.
