Somali government talks with Kenya on closure of somali remittances

Federal government of Somalia and government of Kenya have for the first time discussed about Kenya’s move to suspend key transfer companies vital for impoverished Somalia.
Somalia’s foreign minister, Abdisalan Hadliye speaking to reporters in Nairobi said that they have discussed the issue of the closed remittances with Kenyan’s foreign minister Amina Mohamed.
“We told the minister froze remittances are run by Kenyan citizens who pay taxes to the government of Kenya but they used to provide services to many people who are from countries likes Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan therefore the closure will affect longstanding Kenyan Somali residents and business people so the minister agreed with us and promised that Kenyan government will reconsider its decision” he said.
Kenya has suspended the licences of 13 Somali remittance firms following the massacre at a Garissa university.
