GOOBJOOG NEWS|NEW YORK: Plans to open an embassy and a consulate general in Dakhla, Morocco are in the pipeline, the Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abshir Omar Jama Huruse, has said.

Minister Abshir Omar Huruse, who is in New York for the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, said that the decision to open the embassy was based on the continued, long-standing friendship and solidarity between Somalia and Morocco.

A statement by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the statement in a Twitter post, saying that there were plans to open the embassy following a meeting between the Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.

“Following his bilateral talks with Mr. Bourita, Mr. Abshir Omar Jama announced the opening of an embassy in Rabat and a Consulate General in Dakhla, while reaffirming his country’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Morocco.”

In April this year,  Somali  and Morocco Foreign Ministers met and reviewed long-standing diplomatic relations between the two countries, and called for further cooperation in areas such as regional stability.
