GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Health Minister Ali Haji Adan survived a parliamentary motion seeking his removal, joining fellow lawmakers in voting against his dismissal.

In a show-of-hands vote in the House of the People, 89 lawmakers opposed the motion, 50 supported it and five abstained, according to the result announced by the speaker.

Adan, who also holds a seat in parliament, voted in his own favour during the proceedings.

At least 20 lawmakers had signed the motion, accusing the minister of serious failings. Following its defeat, the speaker instructed Adan to continue carrying out his duties.

The speaker described the outcome as a vote of confidence in the minister, citing Article 119 of Somalia’s Constitution.

Adan thanked lawmakers for their support and pledged to strengthen efforts to improve healthcare services across the country. He also called for closer cooperation between his ministry and parliament to ensure Somalis have access to quality, reliable and equitable healthcare.
