Somali migrants rescued from Red Sea

Storyline:National News

German vessel on Friday intercepted a boat in carrying 90 illegal migrants from Somalia heading Yemen amid a fresh appeal by world leaders demanding action to manage the influx of refugees.

The overcrowded boat was seized in the Red Sea, according vessel’s captain.

The Somali migrants were left dealing with high winds and rough seas that were rocking their raft when it was spotted by the vessel.

The migrants were eventually escorted to Bassaso, a port in the semi-autonomous regional state of Puntland.

Every year, Tens of thousands of African migrants risk their lives to try and enter Europe on unseaworthy boats in search for a better life. Many die atrocious deaths – beaten, thrown overboard, eaten by sharks, drowned or asphyxiated in the hold of crowded smuggler boats.

Despite of the war in Yemen which has caused many to flee and humanitarian crisis, Somalia immigrants are still determined enough to cross the dangerous sea and reach the gulf country.
