Somali Military Court Executes Two Al-Shabaab Members in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Military Court on Monday carried out the execution of two men previously identified as members of Al-Shabaab, after they were convicted of involvement in killings and bomb attacks in the capital.
The two men were executed by firing squad early in the morning after being transferred to the designated execution site under tight security. Government security forces implemented the sentence following a final ruling issued earlier by the Military Court.
According to court officials, the men were identified as Hassan Ali Iftiin Buule, also known within Al-Shabaab circles as “Gacmey,” and Hassan Ali Ibrahim Mohamed Ahmed, who reportedly used multiple aliases including “Baari,” “Biibaaye,” and “Saad.”
The Military Court stated that both individuals were found guilty of participating in assassinations and bombings in Mogadishu that targeted Somali civilians. The court said the executions were carried out in fulfillment of the qisas sentence—capital punishment imposed under Somali law following their conviction.
Officials from the Military Court were present at the execution site and later briefed the media, outlining the legal process that led to the implementation of the death penalty.
The executions come days after other alleged members of what authorities describe as the “Khawarij” were similarly put to death. Those individuals had been accused of carrying out targeted killings and ambush-style attacks.
The Military Court of Somalia recently announced that it had resumed enforcing previously issued death sentences. Among those executed in recent weeks were two soldiers from the Somali National Army who had been convicted of collaborating with Al-Shabaab.
