Somali MPs Attend Pan-African Parliament Session in South Africa
GOOBJOOG NEWS|PRETORIA: Members of Somalia’s Federal Parliament are taking part in the 2026 session of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) underway in Midrand, South Africa, where lawmakers from across the continent are deliberating on Africa’s development, governance and security priorities.
The Somali delegation comprises members from both houses of the Federal Parliament, representing the country at the annual continental legislative gathering.
This year’s session is being held under the theme, “Ensuring Sustainable Access to Water and Safe Sanitation to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” Discussions are focused on improving water security and sanitation across Africa while advancing the African Union’s long-term development blueprint.
In addition to the conference theme, parliamentarians are debating a range of issues affecting the continent, including peace and security, democracy, good governance and regional integration.
The Somali delegation is accompanied by officials from the Somali Embassy in South Africa, led by Somalia’s Ambassador to South Africa, Aadan Isaaq, alongside other embassy diplomats who are supporting the country’s participation in the parliamentary session.
The Pan-African Parliament serves as the legislative arm of the African Union, providing a platform for African lawmakers to discuss common challenges, strengthen cooperation and promote policies aimed at advancing the continent’s development and integration.
