Somali Nation Reviews Tasks Ahead While Ending UNSOM Mandate

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia and representatives from the office United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) Sunday discussed the final touches of the transitional phase, the new mission and tasks ahead of the both sides by the end of UNSOM mandate and activists in October 2024.

During the meeting, a technical committee from the Federal Government of Somalia along with a technical team from the United Nations Assistance Mission to Somalia discussed how to change the type of work of UNSOM or canceling it completely later. .

The discussions of the two committees about the news office, which have begun now, will intensify and continue in the coming weeks regarding a timetable for transferring other operations of the United Nations Assistance Mission to Somalia, which has been operating in the country for a long time.

The new proposal is that Somali government will assume some tasks, while the United Nations office will continue to carry out some other limited tasks.
