Somali National Army Foils Al-Shabaab Attack in Hiraan Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BELEDWEYNE: The Somali National Army has neutralized a member of the Al-Shabaab militant group who was planning an attack against civilians at Beledweyne, the capital of Hiraan region.

The SNA soldiers acting on an intelligence from the residence of the town confronted the militant and shot him dead as he planned his attack and seized a pistol and hand grenades.

5th battalion commander Colonel Mohamud Hassan Ibrahim Baakay, commended the cooperation of the Bundo-Weyne community and the role of the national army in the fight against terrorism.

He said that the SNA will not tolerate any al-Shabaab sympathizers or collaborators in the region and urged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the security forces.

He also assured the residents of Beledweyne and the Hiraan region of the SNA’s commitment to protect them from the al-Shabaab threat and restore peace and stability in the area.

The SNA has been conducting a series of operations against al-Shabaab in the Hiraan region, with the support of international partners.
