Somali National Fined for Fraudulently Obtaining Kenyan Passport
GOOBJOOG NEWS|NAIROBI: A Somali national has been convicted at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Law Courts after pleading guilty to three offences involving unlawful presence in Kenya and the fraudulent acquisition of Kenyan identity and passport documents.
Mohamud Mohammed Roble was arrested after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Immigration and Citizen Services Investigations unit took over the case from immigration officials at JKIA. Investigators found that he had obtained Kenyan registration documents and later secured a Kenyan passport using false declarations.
The court fined Roble a total of $2,847: $1,1540 for being unlawfully present in Kenya, KSh $1,154 for making a false declaration to obtain a passport, and $539 for knowingly presenting an identity card containing false entries with intent to deceive. The court ordered imprisonment in default of payment of the respective fines.
It also ordered that, once the fines are paid, Roble be repatriated to Somalia. His passport was ordered surrendered to the Director General of Immigration Services for destruction.
The DCI said it remains committed to protecting the integrity of Kenya’s identity and travel documents and working with other agencies to investigate and prosecute document fraud.
