Somali national security council meeting kicks off today in Mogadishu
The national security council of the Somali government commenced today in Mogadishu.
Major agendas expected to be crucially deliberated in the meeting are on how to build a Somali national army, footing heir expenses and restoring peace in the country.
Attendants in the meeting include Somali federal president Mohamed Abduulahi Farmaajo, leaders from the regional federal member states and Banadir administration.
This meeting follows one that was held in December 4th 2017 in Mogadishu which discussed the outcomes reached in London Somali meeting in May 2017 among them on how to fund 22,000 national army and 32,000 police officers.
In London, Somalia and 42 donors approved and signed a Security Pact following Somalia’s presentation of the newly approved National Security Architecture during the London Conference for the security reform sector in Somalia.
The Pact hinged on five thematic areas, namely Somalia’s political agreements on national security architecture, comprehensive approach to security milestones, international support, conditions-based transition from Amisom to Somali security forces and governance and implementation of the pact.
The Somali National Security Council formed in mid April 2017 in Mogadishu is made up of federal and regional government officials which is held after every 3 months.
