GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali National University (SNU) has accused unknown parties of carrying out illegal demolition works on land it owns in Mogadishu’s Hodan district, warning that those responsible could face legal action.

In a statement released by its Media and Communications Office, the university said the land is legally registered in SNU’s name and protected under Somali law. It cited a formal legal notice issued by the Office of the Attorney General on Jan. 11, 2026, which reaffirmed the university’s ownership of the property.

SNU said the demolition violates the law and affects facilities earmarked for student services as well as the official residence of the university’s rector, describing the site as part of infrastructure critical to the development of higher education in Somalia.

The university said it has taken all necessary legal steps to protect its property rights and stressed that anyone involved in encroachment or destruction of university land would be held accountable under national laws.

It also urged the public to refrain from unlawful activities and called on relevant authorities to work together to safeguard public and educational assets, which it said are essential to Somalia’s long-term development.
