Somali Parliament debates on formation House Leadership election commitee

Members of Federal Parliament of Somalia have debated on the formation 25-member committee which hold the election of parliament leadership.

In their second legislative session which was held on Saturday, the lawmakers pegged the filing fee for parliamentary leadership at $15,000.

Though there is no new date set for the election, the parliament agreed the soon-to-be appointed committee to schedule the upcoming elections of Speakers.

According to reliable sources, the committees which would carry out the upcoming elections of Speakers of Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament will be shared in 4.5 clan power sharing.

The legislators also passed the proposed $30000 fee for presidential candidates.

The lawmakers will elect the country’s president on a date to be set later.

Over twenty candidates are running to become Somalia’s president who will then choose a prime minister.

Somalia has not seen a powerful central government since former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre was toppled by warlords in 1991.

Since 2007, some 22,000 peacekeepers have been deployed in Somalia in the form of the multinational African Union force to aid the government in curbing the militancy.
