Somali Parliament Leadership Imposes Tough Sanctions on 20 Members Over Disruption
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU, Somalia — The leadership of the two chambers of the Federal Parliament of Somalia has imposed strict disciplinary measures against members of both the House of the People and the Upper House, accusing them of disrupting a joint sitting held on January 28, 2026.
The Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), together with the First Deputy Speaker of the Upper House, Ali Shacbaan Ibrahim, issued a series of decisions affecting a total of 31 lawmakers.
A total of 18 MPs Suspended for 12 SessionsThe following Members of Parliament have been barred from attending 12 parliamentary sittings—both joint and House of the People sessions—effective February 2, 2026:

Legal Basis and Enforcement:
According to official documents issued by the parliamentary leadership, the measures were taken to safeguard the dignity of the legislature and ensure the orderly conduct of parliamentary business, in line with Articles 14, 16, and 28 of the House Rules of Procedure.
Parliamentary security authorities have been instructed to immediately enforce the decision. The sanctioned members will be denied access to the parliamentary chamber for the duration of their suspensions.
