Somali PM Appoints Abdulkadir Omar Macalin as Ports Minister
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: MOGADISHU — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has appointed federal lawmaker Abdulkadir Omar Macalin as Somalia’s minister of ports and marine transport.
Macalin replaces Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, who vacated the position after his election as Speaker of the House of the People in August.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the appointment was made under Article 120, paragraphs 2 and 3, of the Provisional Constitution. It said Barre considered Macalin’s qualifications, experience and knowledge and consulted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud before making the appointment.
Barre urged the new minister to perform his duties diligently and transparently.
Macalin previously contested the election for Speaker of the House of the People, losing to his predecessor at the ministry, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur.
