Somali PM Urges Unity, Vows to Defeat Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has urged Somalis to seek reconciliation, forgive one another, and pray for national peace and stability, emphasizing unity in the fight against terrorism.
Speaking at an Iftar gathering with Somali alumni who studied in Malaysia, Barre called on citizens to set aside differences and support the country’s development.
“I call on all Somalis, as individuals and communities, to seek reconciliation, forgive each other, and pray for the well-being of our nation,” he said.
The Prime Minister commended Somali intellectuals for organizing the event and encouraged them to play an active role in nation-building, peace, and development, in line with the government’s vision for a stable and prosperous Somalia.
Barre also reaffirmed the government’s determination to eliminate Al-Shabaab, warning that Somalia cannot progress while militants retain control of any territory.
“The objective is not just to repel Al-Shabaab, but to wipe them out entirely. Somalia cannot develop as long as they hold even a small portion of our land. It is crucial that we all unite against them,” he said.
He highlighted the significant losses inflicted on the group by the National Army and allied local forces, describing the fight as essential to securing Somalia’s future.
Barre also acknowledged the spiritual significance of the 27th night of Ramadan, believed by many to be Laylatul Qadr, calling on Somalis to reflect on the importance of peace and stability.
