Somali Police Deny Reports of Mortar Attacks in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU – Somali police have denied reports of multiple mortar attacks in Mogadishu on Saturday evening.
Reports emerged late Saturday claiming that as many as eight rounds of suspected mortar fire has been were heard around Hamarweyne, Yaqshid and livestock market in Huriwaa district within Mogadishu.
However, in its statement, police stated that the loud explosions heard in some neighborhoods were caused by large plastic bags placed in different locations.
“We inform the residents of Mogadishu that the sounds they heard were from plastic bags, and no casualties have been reported. Minor damage to tin-roofed homes was acknowledged, but no loss of life or injuries were reported,” the police statement reads.
