Somali federal police force is today celebrating its 74th Anniversary since its inception in 20th December, 1943.
The special event held today in Mogadishu was attended by top officials from the government including the Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire, federal security minister Mohamed Abukar Islow, Banadir governor Thabit Abdi, interim police commander General Bashir Abdi Mohamed and UN country representative Diplomat Michael Keating among other dignitaries.

“I am passing my good wishes to all the Somali police officers irrespective of their diverse ranks including their families on their 74th anniversary in the federal and regional governments” said Premier Kheire.
The PM underscored their efforts to maintain security and also raised the deadly attack on the police during the rehearsal for this big day in their career where 6 days ago a suicide bomber detonated vest killing 13 officers and injured 15 others at the police academy in Mogadishu.
“To have a shelter over our heads today here is the efforts of these 17 soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us to celebrate today this event but we shall never forget their offerings and those who were injured too. We need to support their families as our won.”
Those who sustained injuries “will be given medical attention locally but the ones in critical conditions shall be taken to outside the country” said PM Kheire.
The law enforcement force had several major centres in the country for trainings and capacity building before the collapse of the central government in the early 1990s among them Police Academy for personnel training in Mogadishu, Beledweyne and logistical training in transportation in Baidoa town.
The general referral hospital for the police force is Madina hospital located in Mogadishu.
