Security boost as Japan delivers cars for Somali police – Pictures

The Somalia National Police Force today received a number of cars from the government of Japan to aid  and reinforce security operations especially in the city, Mogadishu.

The fledging force which is yet to establish its full authority in the capital, let alone the rest of the country, have been receiving hardware from different friendly governments, namely Japan and UAE.

A while ago, the government of UAE had delivered armored vehicles to the police, in which most of it lay idle in government garages.

In a ceremony held at the Aden Adde International Airport, representatives from the Japan embassy handed over the 56 police cars to the minister of internal security Hon. Abdirizak Omar Mohamed and Police Chief General Mohamed Hassan Hamud.

Speaking at the ceremony, Japan’s military attaché at the embassy Mr. Tomohiro Tommatsu said “Our aim is to strengthen the police ability to serve the people of Somalia and we are happy to be contributing.”

On his side the police chief said “I would like to thank the government of Japan for their continuous help to the Police, they have helped us before and we really appreciate it”.
