Somali president attends official opening session of Arab Summit
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The President of the Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, attended the opening session of the 31st Arab League Summit in Algiers, Algeria.
The President will be expected to deliver a speech to the summit touching on Somalia’s efforts to maintain security and peace; the fight against terrorism; the drought situation; and steps taken to address the country’s climate-related problems.
His Excellency met with the General Secretary of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the Arab summit and discussed the efforts of the federal government in the fight against terrorism and drought and the challenges climate change has posed to the Horn of Africa nation.
The President is also expected to hold meetings with other Arab leaders and dignitaries present during his stay in the North African country.
The President is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abshir Omar Huruuse; the Minister of Finance, Dr. Elmi Mohamed Nur; Somalia’s Ambassador to Egypt and Somalia’s Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Ilyas Sheikh Omar Abubakar; and Somalia’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mr. Ambassador Wahab Ma’alim Mohamed.
