Somali president condemns Egypt’s deadly attack

Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has condemned the deadly attack on Friday in a local mosque in North Sinai, Egypt killing over 230 people and injured many others.

In his statement, President Farmaajo noted Somalia is sharing the pain with Egypt and the families whose members were either killed or injured in the bomb attack allegedly by militants who are opposed to the government of Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. He also condemned the heinous attack it terming it un-Islamic act.

“Speaking on behalf of the country and the Somali people, we are sharing the pain and sadness with the Egyptian government and its people on the barbaric killing of worshippers in Rowda mosque in Egypt. This attack of today depicts the brutal acts of the terrorists and it’s against Islam. We shall support them against the terrorists who are tormenting some parts of the world” said President Farmaajo.

The attack took place in Bir al-Abed, west of El Arish, the main city in North Sinai when a bomb was detonated near the mosque and the subsequent gunning down of the worshipers in the deadliest attack in Egypt’s modern history according to the state media.
