Somali President Leads Frontline Effort Against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has returned to the frontlines in the Middle Shabelle region to oversee ongoing military operations against Al-Shabaab militants.

His visit follows high-level discussions in Mogadishu with the newly appointed Chairperson of the African Union.

During a stop in Raaga Ceelle, the President addressed hundreds of local fighters, known as the Macawisleey, urging them to remain steadfast in their resistance against the insurgents. He praised their commitment to securing their communities from the militant threat.

Following his address, President Mohamud proceeded to Cadale, where he is set to further coordinate military strategies aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab’s presence in the region.

The Somali government has intensified its campaign against the militant group, with the President taking a direct leadership role in frontline operations. His latest visit highlights his administration’s resolve to restore security and stability across Somalia.

While leading the military efforts, President Mohamud received a message of solidarity from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi following a recent attack on his convoy.

President El-Sisi condemned the act of violence and reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Somalia’s fight against terrorism. He extended condolences to the families of those affected and wished a swift recovery for the injured.

In response, President Mohamud expressed gratitude for Egypt’s continued support, emphasizing the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. The Somali government has vowed to intensify its counterterrorism efforts in the wake of the attack.
