Somali regional leaders meeting kicks off today in Kismayo

 

Somalia regional leaders meeting is expected today to officially open in Kismayo the headquarter of Jubbaland state.

The leaders of Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle arrived on Sunday in Kismayo and the Southwest state president is expected to arrive early Monday to attend the state conference hosted by Jubbaland state, the second time since 2017.

Although the agenda has not yet been announced the chairman of the Cooperation Council state Abdiweli Gaas said, “the aim of the meeting is to discuss the general situation of the country.”

The state conference which is held today in Kismayo for the second time comes as there is a dispute between Jubbaland state and the Somali federal government of Somalia.

The security of the town has been tightened, with many roads in the town were blocked for the meeting.

The leaders are expected to discuss the interests of Somalia and federal member states.
