GOOBJOOG NEWS | BOSASO: Yemeni refugees and Somali nationals returning from Yemen have received protection and emergency assistance in the northeastern Somali port city of Bosaso, the United Nations refugee agency said.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation welcomed the arrivals at a One-Stop Centre, where families received registration services, temporary shelter, protection support and help arranging onward transport.

The operation comes amid continued cross-border movement between Yemen and the Horn of Africa, where conflict, insecurity and economic hardship have forced people to seek safety or return to their countries of origin.

Located on the Gulf of Aden, Bosaso is an important entry point for people travelling between Yemen and Somalia. The maritime route is used by migrants, refugees and asylum seekers moving in both directions, often under difficult conditions.

Yemen has endured years of conflict and a prolonged humanitarian crisis, leaving millions of people in need of assistance. Somalia, meanwhile, continues to face displacement linked to insecurity, drought and limited livelihood opportunities, complicating the reintegration of nationals returning from abroad.

The One-Stop Centre is intended to help new arrivals access essential services and protection support, while coordinating assistance for families needing temporary accommodation and onward transportation.

UNHCR and Somali authorities did not disclose how many people arrived on Wednesday or provide details about their individual circumstances.

The agency works with national and local authorities across the region to support refugees, asylum seekers and people returning to their countries of origin.
