Somali, U.S. forces launch airstrikes against Al-Shabaab insurgents in Hiran region

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The US has confirmed carrying three airstrikes against al-Shabaab terrorists who attacked Somali National Army Forces near Beledweyne, Somalia, August 9, 2022.

According to U.S. Africa Command, four al-Shabab militants are presumed dead in the attack launched Tuesday, and that no civilians were injured or killed.

“The Federal Government of Somalia and the U.S. Africa Command take great measures to prevent civilian casualties. These efforts contrast with the indiscriminate attacks that al-Shabaab regularly conducts against the civilian population,” the release said.

The operation, according to the U.S, was carried in coordination with and in support of the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa in a united commitment to “fighting al-Shabaab to prevent the deaths of innocent civilians.”
