Somali Women Journalists Demands Respect
A meeting which local media personalities, Directors of Non-governmental Organization and civil society activists was held in Mogadishu to highlight challenges facing Women and strengthening their media role in the country.
Farhiya Khare the chairperson of the Somali Women Journalists Association (SWJA ) speaking at the event said “women Journalists are facing many challenges –they are less paid, social stigma , a wide held view that they are less productive than their male colleagues and many more”.
Media directors and government representatives showed their sympathy and acknowledged under the difficult conditions that Somali Journalists especially female reporters are working.
The country is one of most notorious places in the world to work as journalist and as result a lot of reporters as many as 52 are confirmed to be murdered since 1992.
