Somali Women Welcome Completion of Federal Constitution
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISH: Somali women and government officials gathered at the National Theatre in Mogadishu to welcome the completion of the country’s federal constitution following its approval by the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
Participants at the event praised the milestone, noting that the constitution had remained provisional for years before lawmakers voted to finalize the document.
Women representatives from several districts of the capital attended the gathering and commended the Federal Government of Somalia for completing the constitutional review process.
Member of Parliament Zaynab Aamir said lawmakers had approved the constitution with broad support. “The parliament I am part of approved the constitution with full satisfaction,” she said.
Anab, a member of the Galmudug Parliament, also welcomed the development, saying the document had long been described as provisional but had now been finalized.
The gathering comes after Somalia’s two parliamentary chambers endorsed the constitution by majority vote, completing a review process that has been under way since the adoption of the provisional charter in 2012.
The finalized constitution will serve as the legal framework for strengthening governance and democratic institutions in the country.
