GOOBJOOG NEWS | GALGADUUD: Residents of Masagawaa in Somalia’s central Galgaduud region have launched a community-led initiative to rebuild local government infrastructure, marking a step towards restoring public services and strengthening administration in an area affected by years of Al-Shabaab violence.

The initiative began with the laying of the foundation stone for a modern district administration building in the town, which falls under Galcad district.

The project is being spearheaded by local youth volunteers under the leadership of Aden Roble, Director General of the Somali Development Bank, reflecting growing community involvement in reconstruction and development efforts.

Local officials, religious leaders, women, young people and other community representatives attended the groundbreaking ceremony, highlighting broad public support for the initiative.

Masagawaa is among the communities in central Somalia that have faced insecurity and disruption linked to Al-Shabaab activities, which have affected local governance, livelihoods and access to essential services.

The planned administration building is expected to provide a more permanent facility for local government operations and support efforts to improve coordination between authorities and residents.

The initiative also comes amid broader efforts to rebuild public institutions and restore normal life in areas recovering from prolonged insecurity.

Organisers said additional development projects are planned for Masagawaa, although details of the proposed initiatives have yet to be announced.

The community-driven reconstruction effort highlights the role of local residents, particularly young people, in rebuilding institutions and supporting recovery in conflict-affected parts of Somalia.
