Somalia, Abu Dhabi Ports Agree to Deepen Cooperation on Mogadishu Port Upgrade

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Abu Dhabi Ports Group have agreed to strengthen cooperation aimed at accelerating the modernisation of Mogadishu International Port, a move expected to boost trade efficiency and reinforce Somalia’s position in regional commerce.

Following talks in Abu Dhabi, the director general of Mogadishu Port, Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo), said both sides reached a shared understanding on advancing port upgrades, expanding infrastructure and pursuing technical collaboration to improve operations and productivity.

The discussions set the groundwork for attracting investment and aligning Mogadishu Port with international standards, with officials saying the improvements would enhance cargo handling, reduce turnaround times and support sustainable trade growth.

Both parties underscored Mogadishu Port’s strategic location along key maritime routes, noting that improved services would strengthen Somalia’s trade links across the Horn of Africa and beyond.

The agreement marks a step forward in Somalia’s efforts to rebuild critical infrastructure and transform Mogadishu Port into a competitive logistics hub capable of supporting economic recovery and regional integration.
