Somalia Accredits First Envoy to Hungary, Boosting European Ties
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BUDAPEST: Somalia has formally extended its diplomatic reach into Central Europe, with Ambassador Abdullahi Mohammed presenting his credentials to Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok, marking the first Somali envoy to Hungary.
The ceremony at Budapest’s Sándor Palace officially installed Ambassador Mohammed, who also serves as Somalia’s envoy to Germany and Poland, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Hungary in a non-resident capacity.
Speaking after the ceremony, the ambassador said the move reflects Mogadishu’s commitment to expanding Somalia’s international presence and advancing its “Somalia at Peace with the World” foreign policy.
“We are building new bridges to support our national development goals and ensuring Somalia has a seat at every important international table,” he said.
Under the current administration, Somalia has intensified collaboration with EU countries, focusing on institutional capacity-building, agricultural technology, water management, and educational exchange programs. Hungary is considered a strategic partner in these initiatives.
The accreditation signals Somalia’s growing stability and legitimacy, demonstrating the federal government’s shift from internal conflict toward proactive global engagement and economic diplomacy.
