GOOBJOOG NEWS | ALGIERS: Somalia and Algeria have agreed to establish a bilateral Senate friendship committee aimed at strengthening parliamentary cooperation and deepening political ties between the two countries.

The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting between Somalia’s ambassador to Algeria, Yusuf Ahmed Hassan, and the leadership of Algeria’s Council of the Nation (Senate), held at the Senate headquarters.

The proposed committee will provide a formal platform for regular engagement between the upper houses of both parliaments, enabling closer coordination on legislative priorities, African affairs and shared diplomatic positions.

Officials said the initiative is expected to enhance Somalia–Algeria relations by promoting dialogue on governance, peace and development, while also strengthening Africa-wide parliamentary diplomacy.

The Algerian Senate leadership and Algeria’s minister of state for foreign affairs in charge of African affairs voiced support for the move, describing it as a practical step toward more structured cooperation and joint action on continental challenges.
