President Mohamud Begins Official Visit to Algeria to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

GOOBJOOG NEWS | ALGIERS: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is in Algiers for talks aimed at expanding cooperation with Algeria in security, trade and education.

President Mohamud, accompanied by a senior government delegation, was welcomed at the invitation of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The two leaders are expected to discuss joint efforts on regional security, economic partnership and diplomatic coordination, particularly within the African Union and Arab League.

Somalia sees Algeria as a key partner in supporting security reforms and capacity-building, as the country works to stabilize newly recovered areas and rebuild state institutions.

In a brief statement, President Mohamud thanked the Algerian government for what he described as a “warm and brotherly reception,” and said the visit reflects Somalia’s commitment to reinvigorating long-standing ties.

“We are deepening a partnership rooted in solidarity and shared interests,” he said.

The talks are expected to produce agreements focused on training, investment facilitation and educational exchange, according to Somali officials.
