Somalia, Tanzania Sign MoU on Immigration Cooperation
GOOBJOOG NEWS|DODOMA: The Federal Government of Somalia and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in immigration management, marking a step forward in bilateral ties between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Somalia by Interior and Security Minister Abdullahi Fartaag, and on behalf of Tanzania by Interior Minister Patrobas Katambi. The ceremony was attended by the heads of immigration authorities from both countries, Mustafa Duhulow and Dr. Anna Makakala.
Officials said the MoU strengthens diplomatic, security and trade relations between Somalia and Tanzania. It is also aligned with broader regional cooperation efforts among member states of the East African Community.
Under the agreement, holders of diplomatic and official government passports from both countries will be exempt from visa requirements upon arrival. In addition, ordinary passport holders will be eligible to obtain a visa within 24 hours, a measure aimed at facilitating the movement of citizens and businesspeople.
Authorities described the agreement as part of ongoing efforts to ease travel, enhance border management cooperation and promote commercial exchange between the two nations.
The Somali government also commended the role played by its ambassador to Tanzania, Amb. Ilyas Ali Hassan, and the embassy staff in Dar es Salaam for their efforts in advancing bilateral relations.
