Somalia Announces Education Scholarship for Sudanese Students Affected by Conflict
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia’s Education Ministry has announced scholarships for Sudanese students affected by ongoing conflict in the Northeast Africa nation.
According to a statement from the Somali Education Ministry, the initiative aims to provide access to education for displaced students, underscoring Somalia’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in the region.
The statement adds that the scholarships are part of a broader effort to enhance educational opportunities for students whose studies have been disrupted by the conflict in Sudan.
“This initiative enhances educational opportunities for the displaced and promotes regional cooperation, underscoring Somalia’s dedication to access to education for vulnerable groups,” the Ministry’s statement read.
The conflict in Sudan has displaced thousands of individuals, with many students forced to flee their homes and interrupt their education some of which have found refuge in Somalia.
The scholarship program is expected to cover various academic fields, allowing Sudanese students to enroll in Somali universities and colleges.
At the same time, the ministry has urged other nations in the region and beyond to step forward and support educational initiatives for displaced populations, emphasizing that access to education is a fundamental right, even in times of crisis.
