Somalia, Arab League Agree To Expand Scholarships and Education Reform
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and the Arab League agreed to deepen cooperation in education, culture and science, with a focus on expanding scholarship opportunities and strengthening Arabic language programs.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met a delegation led by Dr. Mohamed Walad Acmar, Secretary General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), to discuss practical steps to enhance academic collaboration.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the meeting resulted in commitments to widen access for Somali students to regional universities, support capacity-building in the national education system, and promote higher academic standards.
Discussions also reinforced efforts to advance Arabic language education, reflecting its status as Somalia’s second official language and its role in cultural, religious and regional engagement.
The outcomes are expected to strengthen Somalia’s integration into regional educational networks, create new learning opportunities for students, and support broader national development goals through improved human capital.
