Somalia Army Chief Attends AUSSOM Troop-Contributing Nations Defense Chiefs Meeting in Kampala

GOOBJOOG NEWS|KAMPALA: The Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA), Major General Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, on Wednesday attended the Chiefs of Defence Forces (CDFs) Meeting of countries contributing troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in Kampala, Uganda.

According to Somali military officials, the meeting focused on reviewing Somalia’s security situation, assessing progress in rebuilding and professionalizing the Somali National Armed Forces, evaluating the overall status of the AUSSOM mission and its support framework, and strengthening coordination between Somali forces and AUSSOM troops in joint security operations.

Participants underscored the importance of maintaining strategic cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia, the African Union, and troop-contributing countries to accelerate efforts aimed at improving national security, enhancing the capabilities of Somalia’s armed forces, and intensifying operations against terrorist groups.

The discussions also highlighted the need for closer coordination to support Somalia’s ongoing security transition and the long-term goal of enabling Somali forces to assume full responsibility for the country’s security.

Somali officials said the army chief’s participation reflects the country’s continued engagement with regional and international partners in advancing security cooperation, promoting stability, and strengthening the operational readiness of the Somali National Army.
