Somalia Army Chief in Baidoa As Forces Prepare To Intensify Operations against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Somalia’s Land Forces commander Major General Salah Abdullahi Omar is in Baidoa as military commanders coordinate ongoing efforts to intensify operations against Al-Shabaab in South West State.

General Salah and a delegation of senior officers arrived in the regional capital on Saturday and held discussions with commanders of the Somali National Army’s 60th Division and other officers stationed in Baidoa.

The talks are focused on the progress of military operations, coordination between units and efforts to strengthen the capabilities of forces operating across South West State.

The visit comes as Somali forces continue preparations for further operations against Al-Shabaab, with the military leadership seeking closer coordination between frontline units and regional commanders.

The army has not provided details of specific targets or announced a new operation following the commander’s arrival.

But his meetings with the 60th Division leadership are part of ongoing efforts by the military command to assess operations on the ground, strengthen coordination and improve the readiness of forces involved in the campaign.

South West State remains an important theatre in Somalia’s fight against Al-Shabaab, with military operations continuing in several areas as government forces seek to expand security control and disrupt the group’s activities.

The commander is expected to continue meetings and assessments with military officials in Baidoa as efforts to strengthen the campaign in the region continue.
