GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s military leadership and the African Union mission agreed on Thursday to fast-track the implementation of the Security Transition Plan and intensify joint operations against militant groups.

The agreement was reached during talks between Somali National Army Commander Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud and the head of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, alongside Force Commander Sam Kavuma.

According to officials, both sides aligned on synchronising troop redeployments with the Somali army’s growing operational capacity, ensuring that the gradual drawdown of African Union forces proceeds without creating security gaps.

The meeting also resulted in plans to increase the tempo of coordinated offensives and strengthen logistical support in newly liberated areas, reinforcing the government’s objective of consolidating territorial gains.

The outcome is seen as a step toward enabling Somalia to assume full responsibility for national security while maintaining close operational coordination with continental partners during the transition phase.
