Somalia, AU Officials Meet to Discuss Launch of New Peace Keeping Mission
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia’s Information, Culture and Tourism Minister Daud Aweys Jama Sunday met an African Union delegation led by African Union Representative to Somalia and Head of the AUSSOM Mission, Ambassador Souef Mohamed El-Amine in Mogadishu.
Discussions during the meeting centered on key areas including the launch of the new African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), and the support provided by the African Union to Somalia.
Minister Daud Aweys Jama briefed Ambassador El-Amine on Somalia’s progress in various sectors, including security, politics, economics, and social development and highlighted the country’s significant strides and ongoing efforts to achieve sustainable growth and stability.
The Minister also updated the AU delegation on the region’s diplomatic initiatives, with Somalia playing an active role in efforts that contribute to peace and development across the Horn of Africa.
On his part, Ambassador El-Amine commended Somalia for its progress in multiple sectors, emphasizing that the new AUSSOM operation will pave the way for Somalia to take full responsibility for its security.
He expressed confidence in the Somali National Armed Forces, affirming their readiness to fulfill their security mandate effectively.
