Somalia, AU Strengthen Security Cooperation Against Al-Shabaab
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Senior security and foreign officials met with the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in Mogadishu on Tuesday to boost joint operations against Al-Shabaab and advance stabilization efforts.
Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag met with AUSSOM Head Ambassador El-Hadji Ibrahima Diene to discuss collaboration between Somali Security Forces and AU personnel on law enforcement and public safety. Somali Police Commissioner General Asad Abdullahi Osman and AUSSOM Police Commissioner Hillary Sao Kanu attended.
National Security Advisor Aweis Haji Yusuf and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar also held talks with Diene, focusing on ongoing military operations, coordination of Egyptian troop deployments, and securing sustainable funding for AUSSOM.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a Somali-led peace and security agenda and to strengthening cooperation between Somalia and the African Union.
