Somalia, Australia Discuss Closer Parliamentary Ties

GOOBJOOG NEWS | ARUSHA, Tanzania: Somalia and Australia discussed strengthening parliamentary cooperation and sharing legislative experience during talks between the speakers of their respective lower houses in the Tanzanian city of Arusha.

Somali House of the People Speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jamaac met Australian House of Representatives Speaker Milton Dick on Monday on the sidelines of parliamentary engagements in Arusha.

The talks focused on strengthening ties between the two legislatures, exchanging experience in parliamentary work and expanding parliamentary diplomacy, according to Somalia’s parliament.

The engagement comes as Somalia seeks to strengthen its parliamentary institutions and expand international partnerships as it works to consolidate its political and democratic processes.

The two speakers discussed opportunities for greater institutional cooperation and the exchange of expertise that could support the development of parliamentary practices in both countries.

Jamaac was accompanied by Somali lawmaker Ismail Eid Mohamed and Somalia’s ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community, Ilyas Ali Hassan.

No specific agreements or new initiatives were announced following the meeting.
