GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAKU: Somalia and Azerbaijan have taken a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations by signing a landmark agreement aimed at fostering cooperation in key sectors such as education, energy, security, and governance.
The agreement was formalized on Wednesday following high-level discussions between Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his Azerbaijani counterpart, President Ilham Aliyev, in Baku. The two leaders explored new avenues of collaboration, emphasizing their commitment to mutual growth and development.
President Mohamud hailed the pact as a turning point in Somalia-Azerbaijan relations, highlighting its potential to drive progress in both nations.
“These agreements mark the beginning of a new era of cooperation between Somalia and Azerbaijan. They will not only strengthen our diplomatic ties but also accelerate development and prosperity for both our countries,” said President Mohamud.
Education and Innovation at the Forefront
A key highlight of the agreement is the emphasis on educational collaboration. Azerbaijan has pledged to provide scholarships for Somali students, opening doors for academic exchange and advanced research. Additionally, both nations committed to fostering innovation through joint research initiatives and capacity-building programs.
Energy Cooperation to Drive Sustainability
Recognizing the critical role of energy in economic growth, Azerbaijan has agreed to support Somalia in developing its energy sector, particularly in oil, gas, and renewable energy. This partnership is expected to help Somalia address its energy needs, enhance infrastructure, and promote sustainable development.
Strengthening Security and Governance
The agreement also includes provisions for enhanced cooperation in military training, counterterrorism efforts, and the development of security institutions. By sharing expertise and resources, Azerbaijan aims to bolster Somalia’s capacity to maintain peace and stability.
In the realm of governance, Azerbaijan will assist Somalia in modernizing public administration, improving transparency, and streamlining public service delivery. The exchange of best practices in institutional development is expected to enhance Somalia’s administrative efficiency.
Commitment to Long-Term Collaboration
Both leaders underscored the importance of establishing a permanent mechanism to ensure the effective implementation of the agreements.
“Azerbaijan is proud to stand with Somalia in these critical areas. We believe this cooperation will yield significant benefits for both our nations,” said President Aliyev.
To further cement ties, President Mohamud extended an invitation to President Aliyev for an official visit to Somalia, underscoring Somalia’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations and exploring additional opportunities for collaboration.
The Baku agreement represents a milestone in Somalia’s efforts to expand its international partnerships, positioning the country for long-term economic growth and development. As both nations embark on this transformative journey, the pact is expected to deliver tangible benefits, fostering mutual prosperity and strategic cooperation.
